The SMB1358 is a programmable single-cell lithium-ion/lithium-polymer battery charger for portable applications such as GSM/UMTS handsets, portable media and gaming players, digital camcorders/still cameras, and handheld GPS/PDAs. It offers a simple and efficient way to charge high-capacity Li-Ion batteries via a USB port or an AC adapter. With Summit's proprietary TurboChargeTM mode, the device allows a 750mA charge current from a 500mA USB port, which significantly reduces the charge times.
Specifications and Features
The SMB1358 is a high-efficiency current-mode PWM controller that offers features such as 4.35 to 6.5V input voltage range, 750kHz to 1.25MHz switching frequency, and 0% to 100% duty-cycle. The device features digital programming of all major parameters via I2C interface (with several addresses) and non-volatile memory. It also comes with several battery charge control settings such as qualification, trickle-charge, pre-charge, constant current/constant voltage, and termination/safety settings which are fully programmable via a serial I2C/SMBus, making the model a flexible solution.
