Description
The Littelfuse TMOV® and iTMOV® thermally protected varistors are a new development in integrated circuit protection. They are radial leaded MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) with an integrated thermally activated element. This element is designed to open in the event of overheating due to abnormal overvoltage or limited current conditions outlined in UL1449. The TMOV® and iTMOV® varistors, together with appropriate enclosure design, help facilitate compliance to UL1449 for both cord connected and permanently connected applications. These varistors offer quick thermal response and lower inductance compared to most discrete solutions, resulting in improved clamping performance to fast overvoltage transients. The iTMOV® varistor has a third lead for indicating disconnection from the circuit, allowing for easy connection to monitoring circuitry. Both TMOV® and iTMOV® varistors are also wave solderable, simplifying end product assembly and reducing the expenses associated with hand soldering operations.
