The RS5C348A is a CMOS real-time clock IC designed to connect to the CPU through four signal lines (CE, SCLK, SI, SO) to perform serial transmission of time and calendar data. It features a periodic interrupt circuit with six selectable interrupts ranging from 0.5 seconds to 1 month. There are also two alarm interrupt circuits that generate interrupt signals at preset times. The oscillation circuit of this model is driven under constant voltage, resulting in small frequency fluctuations and low time keeping current. It also includes an oscillation halt sensing circuit to validate internal data during power-on events. The supply voltage monitoring circuit records drops below two selectable thresholds. Additionally, the RS5C348A has a 32.768kHz clock output function, while the RS5C348B does not.

- Interrupt circuit with interrupts ranging from 0.5 seconds to 1 month, provided with an interrupt flag and an interrupt halt
- Two alarm interrupt circuits: Alarm_W for week, hour, and minute alarm settings, and Alarm_D for hour and minute alarm settings
- 32-kHz clock output circuit (Nch. open drain output)
- RS5C348A can disable 32-kHz clock output through a command, while RS5C348B keeps it enabled
- Oscillation halt sensing circuit to judge the validity of internal data
- Supply voltage monitoring circuit with two threshold settings
- Automatic identification of leap years up to the year 2099
- Selectable 12-hour and 24-hour mode settings
- Built-in oscillation stabilization capacitors (CG and CD)
