Description
The P82B715 is a bipolar integrated circuit that belongs to the signal buffers, repeaters, and splitters product category. It is specially designed to be used in I2C bus systems. With the P82B715, the practical separation distance between I2C components can be extended while still retaining all the operational modes and features of the I2C system. This is done by buffering the data (SDA) and clock (SCL) lines in the I2C bus. The I2C bus capacitance limit of 400pF restricts practical communication distances to a few meters. But by using one P82B715 at each end of longer cables, the cable loading capacitance on the I2C bus can be reduced by a factor of 10 times. This reduction in capacitance may allow the use of low-cost general-purpose wiring to extend bus lengths.
