Description
CD4518BD is a dual BCD up counter and CD4520BD is a dual binary up counter, both consisting of two identical, internally synchronous 4-stage counters. These counters are constructed using D-type flip-flops with interchangeable CLOCK and ENABLE lines for incrementing on either the positive-going or negative-going transition. The ENABLE input is maintained high for single unit operation, causing the counter to advance on each positive-going transition of the CLOCK. The counters can be cascaded in ripple mode by connecting Q4 to the enable input of the subsequent counter while the CLOCK input of the latter is held low. The counters are cleared by high levels on their RESET lines.
