Description

The M41T56 is a low power, Serial Real Time Clock with 56 bytes of non-volatile RAM, ideal for use in real-time clock (RTC) applications. The RTC has a built-in 32,768Hz oscillator that is controlled by an external crystal and the first 8 bytes of the RAM are used for the clock/calendar function and are configured in binary coded decimal (BCD) format.

The M41T56 offers counters with a range of tracking seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, years, and century. The 32 KHz crystal oscillator provides exceptional oscillator stability and high crystal series resistance operation. The serial interface supports I2C Bus (400kHz protocol). The RTC has ultra-low battery supply current of 450nA ([email protected]) and a 5V ±10% supply voltage. Timekeeping is down to 2.5V and there is an automatic power-fail detect and switch circuitry. The model also includes 56 bytes of general purpose RAM, software clock calibration to compensate crystal deviation due to temperature, and automatic leap year compensation. The operating temperature range is –40 to 85°C with options for packing, including 28-lead SOIC and SNAPHAT® TOP (to be ordered separately) and SO8N.
