The NCP1251 is a highly integrated PWM controller that provides a rugged, high-performance offline power supply in an extremely small TSOP-6 package. The controller supplies up to 28 V and features a 65 kHz or 100 kHz switching circuit with dithering, operating in peak current mode control. When the auxiliary side power starts to drop, the controller automatically folds its switching frequency back to a minimum level of 26 kHz. When the power drops further, the part enters a skip cycle while limiting the peak current. Over-power protection (OPP) is a very difficult measure, especially when no load standby is required to drive the converter specification. ON Semiconductor's proprietary integrated OPP allows you to take full advantage of the maximum power provided through only two external resistors without compromising standby performance. Latching overvoltage protection (OVP) is combined on the same pin. To simplify implementation, the automatic recovery OVP also monitors the Vcc line. These features provide effective protection in the event of an optocoupler failure or inverse switching operation. Finally, the timer-based short-circuit protection provides the best protection solution, allowing you to precisely select the protection trip point without regard to the loose coupling between the auxiliary and power windings.
