Description
The MAX3656ETG+ is a burst-mode laser driver designed for data rates ranging from 155Mbps to 2.5Gbps. It accepts both positive-referenced emitter-coupled logic (PECL) and current-mode logic (CML) data inputs. The laser driver provides bias and modulation current for the laser diode and has a fast switching time of less than 2ns from an off to on condition. It operates on a single supply voltage as low as +3.0V.

- Burst on-time of 576ns to infinity
- Infinite bias-current hold time between bursts
- DC-coupled operation with a single +3.3V power supply
- Typical supply current of 40mA
- Programmable bias current from 1mA to 70mA
- Programmable modulation current from 10mA to 85mA
- Automatic average power control with a failure monitor (no CAPC capacitor needed)
- APC loop initialization of ≤3 bursts
