The MAX2831/MAX2832 direct conversion, zero-IF, RF transceivers are designed specifically for 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz 802.11g/b WLAN applications. The transceivers operate in the 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz ISM band and are IEEE 802.11g/b compatible, supporting transmission rates of 54Mbps OFDM and 11Mbps CCK. The MAX2831 features a complete RF transceiver, PA, and crystal oscillator, offering best-in-class performance with a receiver current of 62mA, a 2.6dB Rx noise figure, and -76dBm Rx sensitivity. The transceiver does not require I/Q calibration and has a low I/Q gain/phase imbalance of 0.1dB/0.35°. It has a wide RF and baseband gain control range of 33dB and 62dB, respectively. The transceiver also has fast Rx I/Q DC-offset settling and a programmable baseband lowpass filter. It utilizes a 20-Bit Sigma-Delta fractional-N PLL with a step size of less than 20Hz and a digitally tuned crystal oscillator. On the transmission side, the MAX2831 has a transmit power of +18.5dBm (5.6% EVM with 54Mbps OFDM) and a 31dB Tx gain control range. It also includes an integrated power detector. The transceiver operates between +2.7V and +3.6V, while the PA operates between +2.7V and +4.2V. It has a low-power shutdown mode and is packaged in a small 48-pin thin QFN package measuring 7mm x 7mm x 0.8mm.
