What are the plastic raw materials for connectors?

Plastic housings for connectors are commonly made from materials such as PA66, PBT, PA6T, PA9T, LCP, PPA, and PPS. Different materials can be chosen to manufacture connectors based on customer requirements.

Characteristics of PA66 plastic material:

1. Excellent mechanical properties: Nylon has high mechanical strength and good toughness.

2. Self-lubrication and good friction resistance: Nylon has good self-lubricating properties and a low friction coefficient, resulting in long service life when used as a transmission component.

3. Excellent heat resistance: For example, high-crystalline nylons like Nylon 46 have a high heat deformation temperature and can reach 150°C during long-term use. Glass fiber-reinforced PA66 can even reach temperatures above 250°C.

4. Excellent electrical insulation performance: Nylon has high volume resistivity and high breakdown voltage, making it an excellent electrical and electronic insulation material.

5. Excellent weather resistance.

6. Water absorption: Nylon has high water absorption, with a saturation level of over 3%, which can affect the dimensional stability of the components to some extent.

Characteristics of PBT plastic material:

a. Mechanical properties: High strength, fatigue resistance, dimensional stability, and minimal creep (minimal changes even under high-temperature conditions).

b. Heat aging resistance: Enhanced PBT has a UL temperature index of 120-140°C (also exhibits good long-term outdoor aging resistance).

c. Solvent resistance: Less prone to stress cracking.

d. Water stability: PBT is prone to decomposition when exposed to water (caution is needed when used in high-temperature and high-humidity environments).

e. Electrical properties.

f. Molding processability: Can be processed using injection molding or extrusion. Due to PBT's fast crystallization rate and good flowability, lower mold temperatures are required. For thin-walled components, only a few seconds are needed, and for larger parts, 40-60 seconds are sufficient.

Characteristics of PA6T plastic material:

1. Excellent weldability: PA6T has a high melting point (310°C) and a high heat deformation temperature (approximately 290°C), making it highly resistant to welding. It is particularly suitable for electronic connectors used in surface mount technology (SMT).

2. Excellent high-temperature rigidity: PA6T maintains a relatively high modulus even at high temperatures. For example, at 120°C, the modulus is 55% of that at 23°C. Therefore, PA6T exhibits stable and excellent rigidity over a wide temperature range.

3. Excellent chemical resistance.

4. Low water absorption: Compared to nylon resins, PA6T has a lower water absorption rate, only 1/4 to 1/3 of Nylon 66. Therefore, PA6T undergoes relatively small changes in physical properties after water absorption.

5. Excellent dimensional stability: PA6T has low water absorption, resulting in minimal dimensional changes due to water absorption. Additionally, PA6T has a stable thermal expansion coefficient, maintaining a low level even in high-temperature ranges, ensuring good dimensional stability under temperature variations. Furthermore, PA6T exhibits minimal warping during the molding process and has excellent dimensional stability.
