Classification and application of electronic connectors
Electronic connectors, also known as electrical connectors, are widely used in products produced by various industries such as computers and interface devices, telecommunications, communication equipment, instruments, video recorders, projectors, televisions, game consoles, audio equipment, telephones, vehicles, medical equipment, electronics, military and aviation. Depending on different classification methods, electronic connectors can be divided into the following types:
1. Classified by usage: external connectors (used for external casings) and internal connectors (used for internal casings).
2. Classified by processing methods: crimp type, insulation displacement connection (IDC type, also known as piercing type), solder type, straddle type, zero insertion force (ZIF type), dual in-line package (DIP), surface mount technology (SMT).
3. Classified by usage mode: wire-to-board connector, board-to-board connector, wire-to-wire connector, socket and input/output connector.
4. Classified by structure: general connector, moisture-resistant waterproof connector, environmental-resistant connector, airtight connector, fire-resistant connector, and water-resistant connector.
5. Classified by gender: male end, female end (plug, socket; SOCKET, HEADER, male, female).
The function of a connector is to connect two active devices, transmitting electric current or signals. In daily life, we often use the following types of connectors:
1. Bar/press-fit connector
2. Circular connector
3. Rectangular/heavy-duty connector
4. RF coaxial connector
5. PCB/printed circuit board connector
6. Wire-to-wire connector
7. FFC/FPC/flexible flat cable connector
8. Flat cable connector
9. Computer equipment connector
10. Video/audio signal connector
11. Mobile phone connector
12. Power connector
13. High-voltage connector
14. Automotive connector
15. Aviation connector
16. High-speed signal connector.
