In circuits, we often see 0 ohm resistors. For beginners, this can be confusing: if it's a 0 ohm resistor, isn't it just a wire? So why install it in the circuit? Are there such resistors available on the market? In fact, 0 ohm resistors are quite useful.

 

A 0 ohm resistor, also known as a jumper resistor, is a special-purpose resistor. Although its resistance value is not truly zero (this can only be achieved by superconductors), it has a resistance value, so, like conventional surface-mount resistors, it also has an error accuracy index.

 

The following summarizes a series of uses for 0 ohm resistors:

 

1. It has no function in the circuit, but is installed on the PCB for the convenience of debugging or compatibility design.

 

2. It can be used as a jumper. If a certain section of the circuit is not used, the resistor can be omitted (without affecting the appearance).

 

3. When the matching circuit parameters are uncertain, a 0 ohm resistor can be used instead. During actual debugging, the parameters can be determined, and specific components with concrete values can be substituted.

 

4. When you want to measure the power consumption of a certain part of the circuit, you can remove the 0 ohm resistor, connect an ammeter, and easily measure the power consumption.

5. When wiring, if it is really impossible to pass through, a 0 ohm resistor can be added.

 

6. Under high-frequency signals, a 0 ohm resistor can act as an inductor or capacitor (depending on the external circuit characteristics). Inductance is mainly used to solve EMC problems, such as connecting ground to ground, power supply and ICPin.

 

7. Single-point grounding (refers to the separation of protective grounding, working grounding, and DC grounding on the equipment, and each becomes an independent system).
