The APDS-9005-020 is a low-cost analog-output ambient light photo sensor that comes in a miniature chipLED lead-free surface mount package. It consists of a photo sensor with a spectral response close to the CIE standard photopic observer. This makes it ideal for applications where ambient light measurements are used to control display backlighting. Incorporating the APDS-9005-020 in designs of mobile phones and PDAs can significantly reduce power consumption by efficiently managing display backlighting.
