The MC12080 is a single-mode frequency divider with 10, 20, 40, and 80 prescalers for low-power dividing of 1.1 GHz high-frequency input signals. The crossover ratio control inputs SW1, SW2, and SW3 select the desired 10, 20, 40, or 80 crossover ratio. An external load resistor is required to terminate the output. Assuming a load of 8.0 pF, the 820 Ohm resistor is recommended to achieve a 1.2 Vpp output swing if the 1.1 GHz input signal is crossed at a minimum crossover ratio of 10. The output current can be minimized depending on the output frequency, the capacitive load being driven, and the desired output voltage swing. Typical values of load resistors for different crossover ratios at 1.1 GHz input frequency are included in the Vout specification.
