The CAT1021 is a comprehensive memory and supervisory management solution for microcontroller-based systems, with an EEPROM serial 2-Kb I2C CPU supervisor integrated with a system power supervisor with undervoltage protection using low-power CMOS technology. The CAT1021 provides a precision VCC sense circuit and two open-drain outputs: one (reset) output drives high and the other (reset) output drives low when VCC falls below the reset threshold voltage. If WP is connected to a logic high level, write operation is disabled. The supervisor has a 1.6 second supervisor timer circuit that resets the system to a known state if a software or hardware failure causes the system to shut down or suspend. The supervisor timer monitors the SDA signal. The power monitor and reset circuitry protects the memory and system controller during power on/off and under voltage conditions. Five reset threshold voltages support 5.0 V, 3.3 V, and 3.0 V systems. The reset signal activates if the supply voltage exceeds the tolerance range, preventing the system microcontroller, ASIC, or peripheral from operating. The reset signal typically deactivates 200 ms after the supply voltage exceeds the reset threshold level. When both high and low reset signals are active, interfacing with microcontrollers and other ICs becomes simple. In addition, the reset pin or the standalone input MR can be used as an input with a push-button manual reset function. The on-chip 2 Kb EEPROM memory has a 16-byte page. In addition, VCC sensing circuitry provides hardware data protection against writing to the memory if VCC falls below the reset threshold or if VCC reaches the reset threshold during power-up.
