Description

The TPS55340 is a nonsynchronous monolithic switching regulator with an inbuilt 5-A, 40-V power switch. The device supports a variety of conventional switching-regulator topologies, including boost, SEPIC, and isolated flyback. The device supports applications that require input voltage from multicell batteries or regulated 3.3-V, 5-V, 12-V, and 24-V power rails.

The TPS55340 features an inbuilt oscillator and manages the output voltage using current mode PWM (pulse width modulation). PWM switching frequency is controlled by an external resistor or by synchronization to an external clock signal. The switching frequency can be programmed from 100 kHz to 1.2 MHz.

The device offers a programmable soft-start mode to restrict inrush current during startup, as well as other built-in safety features such as cycle-by- cycle overcurrent limit and thermal shutdown.

The TPS55340 is offered in 3-mm 3-mm 16-pin QFN and 14-pin HTSSOP packaging with PowerPAD for improved thermal performance.

The HTSSOP-14 package's 5-A, 40-V TPS55340 boost converter is pin-to-pin compatible with the 3-A, 40-V TPS61175, and it increases the maximum input voltage from 18 V to 32 V.
