The highly integrated FAN6300A/H series PWM controllers offer several features to enhance the performance of flyback converters.The FAN6300A should be used for quasi-resonant flyback converters operating at a maximum frequency below 100kHz.The FAN6300H is suitable for high frequency operation (up to 190kHz). The built-in high voltage start-up circuit provides more start-up current to shorten the controller start-up time. Once the VDD voltage exceeds the turn-on threshold voltage, the high-voltage start-up function is immediately disabled to reduce power consumption. An internal valley voltage detector ensures quasi-resonant operation of the power system over a wide range of line voltages and under any load condition, reducing switching losses and minimizing switching voltage on the power MOSFET drain. To minimize standby power consumption and light load energy efficiency, a proprietary green mode feature provides modulation during shutdown to reduce switching frequency, perform extended valley voltage switching, and keep switching voltage at a minimum level. The operating frequency is limited by the minimum tOFF time of 38?s to 8?s in the FAN6300A and 13?s to 3?s in the FAN6300H, so the FAN6300H can operate at a higher switching frequency than the FAN6300A. The FAN6300A/H controller also provides many protection functions. Even in the event of a short circuit, pulse-by-pulse current limiting ensures that a fixed peak current limit level is achieved. In the event of an open circuit fault in the feedback loop, the internal protection circuitry immediately disables the PWM output. The controller also disables the PWM output as soon as VDD drops below the shutdown threshold voltage. A gate output clamping voltage of 18V is used to protect the power MOS from high gate-source voltage conditions. The minimum tOFF time limit prevents the system frequency from going too high. If the DET pin triggers OVP, the internal OTP is triggered and the power system enters latch mode until AC power is removed. the FAN6300A/H controller is available in an 8-pin small form factor package (SOP).
